MP Supports Dementia Friendly Community Cafe
Home Instead Senior Care, an at-home care company which services clients in Welwyn, Hatfield and the surrounding area, is delighted that Rt Hon Grant Shapps MP, took time out of his busy schedule to show support for the local Dementia Friendly Community Café, which takes place every third Thursday at Our Lady’s Family Centre, 141 Woodhall Lane, in Welwyn Garden City.
On 12th January, Mr Shapps visited the offices of Home Instead Senior Care and met with the owner of the care company, Heather Simms, and her caring team to discuss their mission of changing the face of ageing in the Welwyn and Hatfield area.
The Dementia Café which was set up by Jane Andrews Home Instead with the support of Shelley Jackson, Blueberry Hill Care, last November has been well supported by the local community.
Rt Hon Grant Shapps said,“It’s fantastic to see a new community café set up in WGC, which is specifically for local people affected by dementia. Initiatives such as this are hugely valued by the community, and I encourage everyone to get involved with the café.”
Heather Simms, owner of Home Instead, said “We would like to thank Rt Hon Grant Shapps MP for spending time with us and sharing ideas about raising awareness of dementia in the local community.
“The purpose of the community café is to provide a safe and welcoming place for local people, who have been affected by memory loss, Alzheimer’s and other types of Dementia
The next café will be held on the 18th January between 10.00am – 2.00pm at Our Lady’s Family Centre and all are welcome to attend.”
