Do you have experience of DoLS?

Thursday 26 October 2017

The Department of Health wants to learn from people who have personal experience of DoLS in their own lives, either by being subject to an authorisation or as a relative or friend of such a person.  They have asked us to help them identify people who would like to attend a short workshop, where they will be happy to express their views.  The date has not been finalised, but will probably be in Reading next month. Travel expenses will be paid to attendees, together with the cost of any necessary respite care.

The purpose of the workshop is to make sure that the voices of people directly involved with DoLS are heard whilst the Government is considering a new model recommended by the Law Commission.  They want to hear what people with experience want from a new system, what really matters to them, maybe their views on assessment, ‘wishes and feelings’, advocates and appeals or challenges- or anything else about DoLS!
