1. Action Plan
1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?
We feel that dementia is the biggest single problem facing health services today and one that is impacting many of our employees and clients. It poses an enormous challenge and demands an urgent and substantial response.
Alzheimer’s Research UK became our charity of the year for the next two years in 2019 with the aim to raise £150,000 during this vital fundraising partnership to help transform lives, identify life-changing treatments and eventually a cure. We are engaging employees, clients and partners to raise money for the charity through a series of fundraising events, from bucket collections to payroll giving, sporting events, dinners and seasonal activities. In addition to this we are encouraging our employees to take part in research activities. Raising funds is our priority alongside raising awareness to overcome misconceptions around dementia.
We have seen first-hand the devastating effect dementia has on families and we look forward to making a huge difference over the next two years and beyond via research funded from our efforts.
2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?
We are confident that we can deliver across our locations, Aberdeen, Belfast, Birmingham, Buckingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leicester, London, Manchester, Newmarket and Preston; though we may look to engage with “local” DAAs in these locations.
Improve our understanding of Dementia
We will arrange for all staff to be dementia aware to ensure greater understanding of the condition and how we can help.
Work in partnership with Newmarket DAA
Mattioli Woods will work with the Newmarket Dementia Action Alliance to support Newmarket to become a dementia friendly community and encourage other organisations to attend Dementia Friends sessions and sign up to the Dementia Action Alliance.
