1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Staff have been dementia awareness trained and further staff will be trained in the coming months.

We have a dementia lead - the community champion who has support from two members of staff, who are members of the Blandford DAA.

At Morrisons we care for all our customers and want each and every one of them to have the best shopping experience in our stores.

At Morrisons Blandford, we acknowledge that dementia is becoming an increasing issue within the community we serve.  All the colleagues care about the customers well-being and are committed to ensuring that all their needs are catered for whilst in our store, to the best of our ability.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Ensuring that dementia awareness is maintained in the training programme when the store is very busy, with time and financial restrictions.

2. Actions

  • Dementia awareness for staff

To make all staff dementia friends trained.  Staff who have not already had a session will be encouraged to sign up and attend this.

  • Helping Hands for Needing Customers

Have members of staff ready to assist customers.  At Morrisons one of our priorities is to serve our customers better.  At Blandford Morrisons we always help by going around the store with the customer, helping with paying, packing etc.  We even phone for taxis or take shopping to the car/home.

    Being implemented
  • Create a dementia friendly environment

Store layout - This has recently been revamped (late 2016).  This was to make it more spacious and customer friendly.  We regularly check signage to help the customer clearly understand the layout of the store.  We believe the signage is dementia friendly and we will continue to monitor this.
