1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Looking after our community is an important value instilled into Little Waitrose at Jesmond. We want to ensure we are doing our part to become dementia-friendly, even if its through taking small steps such as ensuring a high percentage of our employees are Dementia Friends.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

We are restricted in terms of making any structural changes to the store however we will do our best to ensure all who shop at Little Waitrose, Jesmond are felt able to do so comfortably.

2. Actions

  • Dementia Friends

We will work towards making a high percentage of our employees become Dementia Friends, so that they better equipped to deal with any customers affected by the disease.

  • Customer Facing Staff Guide

We will ensure a copy of the 'Customer Facing Staff Guide' is available in the staff areas of the store so that colleagues can have a read and get some useful tips on how to communicate and assist those affected by dementia.
