1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

The art projects that are running, enables customers, regardless of their ability, to get involved in the carer sessions and awareness of staff to help with individual projects around the person (so it is a person-centred approach).

There are day art sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays for people with dementia and a session for carers, once a month (2nd Wednesday of every month).

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

The challenge is the staff having more knowledge of the individual's needs and requirements around the stages of dementia.

2. Actions

  • Awareness Raising.

We will organise some dementia awareness sessions for staff/volunteers with Claire Puckey (Dementia Friendly City Coordinator, Plymouth City Council).

  • Reviewing the Physical Environment of The Studio.

Claire Puckey ( Dementia Friendly City Coordinator, Plymouth City Council) has come into The Studio (28.01.19) and carried out a dementia friendly assessment for us to look into and consider implementing the recommendations.

  • Promoting and Encouraging External Organisations and People To Get Involved in the Dementia Friendly Approach.

We will hold a dementia friendly art class in Dementia Action Week.
