1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Our aim as an organisation is to provide a safe, secure, clean and well maintained facility that is inclusive for all. Indeed, we also aim to provide dedicated, qualified, well trained colleagues to support customers and make their visit more enjoyable. By upskilling our colleagues to be dementia friends, ensuring signage is accurate and customer friendly, and providing specialist activities we aim to deliver better outcomes for people living with dementia.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Our biggest challenge is that we are a large public building with a wide variety of demographic of user. With a swimming pool and 100 station gym, there is an exceptional footfall at certain times of the day. Therefore, by ensuring all of our colleagues are trained to be a dementia friend, we can put provisions in place at busy periods to eradicate any potential issues.
