1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists a number of outcomes that we are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Derby City Council is jointly responsible (alongside Southern Derbyshire CCG) for creating and delivering on Derby’s Dementia Strategy. Derby City Council support and project manage the local multi-agency strategic planning partnership –Southern Derbyshire Dementia Board – to deliver on the local strategy and implementation plan associated.

The Council has recently developed an internal working group consisting of Dementia Champions from key service areas to improve outcomes for local people. This group’s work will feed into the wider strategic approach.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Key challenges include:

  • proposed budget savings for a range of non-statutory and statutory services impacting on people affected by dementia and their families;
  • provision of up to date information about support available;
  • providing people affected with dementia with access to services that support their independence such as reablement and assistive technology;
  • public and professional awareness of dementia;
  • training and development of staff across all provider sectors

2. Actions

  • Provide key information

    • Make it easier for citizens and professionals to find key information about dementia by a) updating the Derby City Council web-site and b) by producing key contact cards for local citizens – by October  2013
