Norwich Door to Door

Norwich Door to Door is a local charity providing an essential door to door minibus service for disabled people on low incomes living in Norwich who are unable to access public transport. Our aim is to relieve loneliness, break down barriers to social inclusion and increase feelings of general well being. Our passengers’ mobility problems make it difficult or impossible to use public transport or volunteer car schemes. Our safe and secure minibus service with our specially trained bus teams, offers independence and enables our passengers to leave their homes and become more involved and active in their communities.

1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Norwich Door to Door will continue to advocate the benefit of social inclusion through transport to a person’s health and wellbeing.

Norwich Door to Door will continue to provide equal access to transport by offering a safe and secure, fully accessible door to door service to our Norwich community, providing access to our users to the resources available in their community and city.

Norwich Door to Door will work proactively with the Norwich Dementia Action Alliance to promote its work and raise awareness of dementia services available in the city.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Understanding dementia; raising awareness of dementia; education.

Understanding our users’ feelings of isolation and their lack of access to local resources.

Resources to implement the actions we have put in place.
