1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

The work that GMFRS does around dementia has the following aims:

1. To reduce the numbers of fire related injuries and deaths affecting people with dementia

2. To become a dementia friendly organisation so that we:

- have a better understanding of the needs of people living with dementia

- can work more effectively to keep people safe from fire and provide support and signposting where it is needed

- to provide opportunities for people living with dementia to utilise our community fire stations

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

1. Limited appropriate training for Community Safety Advisors (e.g. Dementia Friends session)

2. On occasions, Safe & Well visits undertaken with no other agency rep or relative in attendance (despite this requirement being explained prior to a visit)
