1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Our aim is to offer Dementia awareness sessions to all businesses in Purley as well as access to the resources they can use to make their customer facing facilities more dementia friendly.

To work in partnership with other agencies and care homes in the area to support the initiative and encourage more people to attend Dementia Awareness sessions.

To train at least one member of Purley BID team to become a Dementia champion.

To organise community events, like 'Live Well in Purley' event to raise awareness about Dementia and support available.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

There is a challenge around resources and funding. It will rely on the efforts of a very small team.

2. Actions

  • To create awareness about Dementia in Purley via events, talks and training opportunities.

Building relationships with local care homes and other local businesses to encourage their staff to take part in Dementia awareness sessions and local events, such as 'Live Well in Purley' yearly event.

  • Ensure all existing staff have attended a Dementia Friends awareness session and one of the staff members to become a Dementia champion.

Arrange mandetory sessions for all incoming and existing staff to make them aware of Dementia and the best practices in making life as normal as possible for people living with Dementia.

One member of staff will also undergo the required training in becoming a Dementia champion and support other members of staff in becoming Dementia friends.

  • One of the Purley BID staff members to go through the training and become a Dementia Champion.

This will help us to run more Dementia Awareness sessions in the local area.
