Fish Burwell LTD, award winners of ‘Best New Business 2012’ from Newmarket & District Chamber of Commerce and, Finalists for ‘Ely Standard’s Business Awards 2012,’ began trading in the summer of 2010. From our mobile unit at Manchetts Budgens in Burwell. Since then we have developed, after opening a shop in The Guineas Centre, as part of the ‘Strictly Newmarket’ Competition. We strive to provide our customers with the freshest fish possible. Fresh deliveries are made every day to guarantee that our high standards are maintained. We stock a wide variety of fish on a daily basis from Salmon and Cod to Halibut and Monkfish. We have tried everything that we sell and can provide you with a recipe or method of cooking, befitting the fish you are purchasing. We also stock a variety of pour on and cook in sauces, such as; Fish Pie Sauce and Hollandaise Sauce. As well as a range of herbs and spices, to make your fish dishes taste even more fantastic! 1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

The aim of Fish Burwell Ltd is to support people living with dementia to have a sense of belonging and being a valued part of family and community life by providing a safe and supported retail environment. 

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Making sure that all staff have a good understanding of the issues surrounding people living with Dementia by attending and cascading training. Helping staff not to make assumptions.

2. Actions

  • Improve our understanding of Dementia

    We will arrange for all staff/volunteers to be dementia aware to ensure greater understanding of the condition and how we can help.

  • Work in partnership with Newmarket DAA

    Fish Burwell Ltd will work with the Newmarket Dementia Action Alliance to support Newmarket to become a dementia friendly community and encourage other organisations to attend Dementia Friends sessions and sign up to the Dementia Action Alliance.

  • Promoting dementia awareness

    Fish Burwell Ltd will display the NDAA window sticker to show it is a member of the NDAA. Also when applicable and appropriate the dementia friendly sticker, to demonstrate it is a dementia friendly retailer.
