Firstsite

Firstsite is a multi-faceted venue. Primarily presenting exhibitions, running events and activities, and screening films and live events (our cinema is powered by Curzon). We are also quickly becoming a trusted space for a number of varied local community groups. We also have a cafe run by CIC 'Walk the Line'.

1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Initially we want to host dementia friendly film screeenings. We would like to make Firstsite a space that welcomes all members of the community to experience visual art; and as the arts is growing in recognition to improve the wellbeing of those affected by dementia (families & carers included). Firstsite want to work towards providing arts experiences to support this network.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

The design of our building does not typically lend itself well to dementia friendliness. Staff training and awareness - We have lots of casual staff and volunteers and it would take some time to ensure all receive training and support.
