Beacon Friendship Group

Beacon Friendship Group (BFG) is part of Beacon Church. A proactive social group meeting weekly on Monday afternoon at 2.00 p.m. - 3.30 p.m. at Sandon Road Baptist Church ( 1st Monday 11.00 a.m. Marston Court Sheltered Accommodation for short Communion service and Bring & Share lunch). BFG is a welcoming group of mixed older people from different faiths, ethnicity and abilities. The social group has been running 20 years under different names/formats.

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Beacon Friendship Group (BFG) is a proactive social group meeting weekly as part of Beacon Church. We are a mixed older people group from different faiths and ethnicity. The pastoral team aim to offer spiritual and practical help to all the group and their carer’s. We have held Dementia Friends session and attend Stafford Dementia Action Alliance meetings.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

As a small part of Beacon church availability of people and lack of knowledge.

    We will include dementia information at BFG meetings and community events and advertise our commitment on our facebook page with an aim to encourage more people with dementia to join us.
