1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Crowstone House ensures that people in our care retains autonomy, they remain in charge of their care and treatment and they feel safe at all times.

We recruit dedicated and caring people and offer extensive training to maintain the highest standard possible.

The Manager and Directors carry out regular audits to ensure that all legislative requirements are met and good practice is promoted.

At Crowstone House people in our care feel valued because their comments and views are taken seriously. Their preferences and choices are respected. The Home carries out surveys to seek feedback hence improve the quality of care.

We are continuously looking at innovative way to meet the needs of our residents.

Residents are engaged in various activities, particularly external activities.

With the Cliff Pavillon and the Palace theatre within walking distance, many residents are regular theatre goers. They also attend the Odeon Cinema regularly.

The Home makes good use of the Company Mini Bus to visit Garden Centres and places of interest within the local area.

The environment is dementia friendly as the environment has a direct and positive impact on people’s wellbeing. The management is keen to promote an open, friendly and happy atmosphere within the Home. Staff understand the culture, vision and values of the Company. Staff recognise resident’s privacy and confidentiality.

Relatives and friends always feel welcome and are very much part of the team.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Recruitment and retention of quality staff becoming an increasing problem.

Interactive Dementia Training are more effective than elearning. The Company provides face to face dementia Training for all staff and also Dementia leadership Training and Dementia Champion Courses.
