1. Action Plan
1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?
We pledge to offer Dementia Awareness training to our centre staff and tenants. intu Chapelfield will be a recognised shopping centre which understands, welcomes and includes people living with dementia. We pledge to support Dementia awareness campaigns by offering charity event space within the shopping centre. We pledge to volunteer our time to support Dementia charities across our community
2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?
We will hold initial training sessions for all departments and offer the same training to our tenants. Time and availability of staff and tenants are the two main constraints, we will endeavor to ensure all of our staff are inspired to take part in training and put into action what they learn during dementia awareness training. We will appoint a Dementia Champion within our centre and will hold regular refresher/new training sessions for all.
Complete Dementia Awareness Training
We pledge to offer Dementia Awareness training to our centre staff and tenants. On the 24th April, intu Chapelfield will run two Dementia Awareness Training sessions for both centre staff and tenants.
Promote our relationship with Norwich City DAA
intu Chapelfield will be a recognised shopping centre which understands, welcomes and includes people living with dementia. Once staff are trained, we will update our website to reflect our relationship and partnership with the alliance. In turn we will raise awareness of our pledge to be recognised as a shopping centre which understands, welcomes and includes people living with dementia.
- Being implemented
Support Dementia Action Week
We pledge to support Dementia awareness campaigns by offering charity event space within the shopping centre. In 2017 The Norwich Alzheimer's Society represented within the shopping centre to help raise awareness during Dementia Action Week. For 2018 the Norwich Alzheimer's Society have been invited to showcase their work and take part again in raising dementia awareness during Dementia Action Week 21 - 27th May 2018. We also welcome Age UK Norwich, Norwich City Dementia Action Alliance and the Norwich Alzheimer's Society to represent and showcase within the shopping centre over the coming years.

Volunteering across dementia charities
We pledge to volunteer our time to support Dementia charities across our community. Each year at intu Chapelfield staff receive up to 2 days (15 hours) of volunteering time. In 2017 the team gave over 20 hours of time assisting the Norwich Alzheimer's Society with various activity from raising awareness during Dementia Action Week, to volunteering at the Norwich Memory Walk at the Royal Norfolk Showground to assisting at the Carol Concert at Saint Peter Mancroft Church. In 2018 and beyond we will continue to donate our time towards assisting at events led by both Age UK Norwich, Norwich City Dementia Action Alliance and the Norwich Alzheimer's Society.
