1. Action Plan
1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?
We would like to ensure that people who are diagnosed with Dementia don’t stop using leisure facilities, we want to ensure that they can still continue to have a healthy lifestyle in an environment that is friendly, welcoming and supportive
2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?
Ensure that we don’t have any barriers in place that would deter people with Dementia from using leisure facilities – Ensure staff are trained and that we carry out an audit of our leisure facilities
Ensure we have a number of Dementia champions within the service who can then disseminate training to all staff and include Dementia awareness as part of new staff inductions process. The Dementia champions will network with other Dementia champions to ensure GO Gateshead is up to date with any new developments / actions etc.
Carry out an audit on all seven leisure facilities to see if they are Dementia friendly and what amendments we could make if necessary
What we are going to do: Following training encourage all of our staff to become Dementia friends
