1. Action Plan
1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?
The work that K&Co particularly addresses are some Statements of the Declaration. Locally: Our work for all client(s) & especially those in later life ensures that personal choices and decisions are met both before & after death, our work with Lasting Powers of Attorney ensures that clients have the legal mechanisms in place to facilitate support enabling them to live life, & our technical expertise ensures that every client(s) (& their family) is fully aware of all the options they have available regarding finances & succession planning. Nationally: Our work through nationwide Dementia organisations allows us to contribute to the ongoing & much-needed education process to the public in estate planning matters. A legal structure that underlies every client(s) support is a crucial part of their care & ensures that they have the knowledge and know-how to live the fullest life & leave their affairs secure for their family(s).
2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?
The challenge we at K&Co Estate Planning face is changing public perception. The context or landscape of our work is not well-understood. Most individuals recognise the necessity of estate planning, but there still exists too much confusion and myth about what is & isn't possible. There is also the unfortunate lack of urgency with the majority leaving their estate planning 'too late' - fewer than 30% of the UK population have an up-to-date Will & less than 1% have an up-to-date Power of Attorney. K&Co Estate Planning are committed, through their support of charities, to improving awareness, simplifying processes & encouraging change for every client.
