1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Our organisation's role would to be to provide spaces and opportunities for people with dementia and their carers. As an arts venue we would be committed to creating a dementia friendly environment where all staff are trained by a dementia champion. We can work on booking in shows that cater to a broader audience, such as Vamos Theatre group. Our role would would be to create a theatre that is fit for purpose and delivers high quality culture and entertainment to everyone in our community. With a Cafe attached to the theatre we have the perfect space where those with dementia and their carers can enjoy a cup of coffee in a welcoming and supportive environment, where we can also offer workshops through our dementia champion.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

With any art institution perhaps the larges difficulty we face is funding. However with the introduction of a Development Manager and Community and Education Manager we are confident that new funding streams will be established to better position ourselves to connect and deliver outreach programs in the community. We also face the challenge of educating and training all our staff members and we look forward to working closely with our Local Dementia Champion to establish this.
