1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

2. Actions

  • Trader awareness sessions

    Invite local traders and businesses to attend 1 hour awareness training so that more people living with dementia and their carers are more likely to visit and shop in our town, Nailsworth (South Cotswolds).

    2019 - First Quarter Update

    we  completed a course (primarily for town councillors but included traders) in November 2018 and intend to continue running more

    2018 - Second Quarter Update

    we have completed a 2nd awareness session in November to Nailsworth Town Council members and several traders.  The first session was in July 2018.  We have also offered 2 sessions to  Churches Together Nailsworth earlier in 2018

  • Dementia Friendly Walks

    Continue offering monthly dementia friendly walks from spring to autumn in the grounds of Ruskin Mill College.  2018 saw the beginning of this scheme with walks from June to October. Unfortunately, we are no longer able to meet here and have found alternative venues and walks

    we have funding for first aid training for  volunteers

    Over the winter the "walks" have been lunches at the local garden centre café.

    2019 - Second Quarter Update

    Walks are now no longer at Ruskin Mill College but are taking polace in the summer months elsewhere.  We hope that the resurfacing of the cycle track - due soon - will provide a wheelchair friendly walk close to a local hotel which already offers coffee

  • Logo for identifying dementia friendly premises

    Design a logo and prepare stickers for shops and businesses to display once they have completed an awareness session

    Ensure there is annual training for the Primary Care team on Dementia Awareness and Management

    Inform patients with Dementia and their carers of the Gentle Walks for people with Dementia In Nailsworth which are organised on a seasonal basis

    Of the 10+ volunteers not all have basic first aid training.  Funding has been secured for this.  Training should take place during autumn of 2019

  • Have table at annual Town Meeting 2019

    DFN will have a table at the annual town meeting on 27th April where we can tell people about local services and encourage traders to have the awareness training
