1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Our community centre and cafe provides a welcoming place for those living with dementia and their carers to meet and mingle with others from the local community.

Our range of activities meet both therapeutic and social needs for people with dementia and their carers.  We are also working to improve community understanding of the challenges of health / happy ageing and looking to get more people from the local area involved.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Stable funding.  As a non-profit community interest company we are working to fund our activities primarily from the community cafe.  Obtaining grants / funding from other sources will be critical to helping us offer the range of services needed.

Publicity + networking.  Letting the local communities know about our plans + connecting effectively with other organisations helping with the healthy / happy ageing agendas.

2. Actions

  • Healthy / happy ageing activities

Run a range of healthy / happy ageing activities to help meet the social and therapeutic needs of those living with dementia and their carers.  Some activities will be run by the School House and we will also host activities run by other groups in our community centre and cafe.

    Being implemented
  • Offer Education and Advice on Healthy / Happy Ageing

As a community hub,we help those with dementia and their carers and the wider community to learn about healthy / happy ageing and connect with information and services that will help them.

    Being implemented
  • Consistent Funding

Obtain consistent funding via grants / donations to allow us to run the full range of healthy / happy ageing activities our local community needs.

Any surplus from our community cafe will fund activities but we need additional grants to deliver everything we have in mind.
