Gladstone Pottery Museum

Gladstone Pottery Museum is housed in a historic Victorian Pottery Factory. We tell the story of how people made pottery, with demonstrations everyday of traditional skills and the opportunity for you to try these skills yourself. A lively events and activities programme offers more opportunities to take part in crafts.

1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

We believe we can offer a wonderful experience to visitors with dementia and their carers. Initial consultation and audit suggest that the main way we can improve is to make it easier to access information before and during a visit, and show that all are welcomed.
We want to ensure that the museum and resources are dementia friendly and inclusive.

We will contact local organisations to let them know what we currently offer and consult with people with dementia to ensure that resources are dementia friendly, and this is considered when planning events and activities programme.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Ensuring sufficient staff time is allocated to work with people with dementia on on-going basis.  This is why we want to embed it into information/websites/training so that it becomes included in everything we do.
