1. Action Plan
1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?
Providing appropriate advice information, support and advocacy to unpaid carers and their family who support someone living with dementia.
We run support group for dementia Carers. We will support Dementia Café’s across the borough with advice, information and support to dementia carers.
We deliver a range of respite activities and training events to improve:
personal well-beingthe understanding of dementia with coping strategies, and the quality of care provided by the carer.
2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?
Supporting the number of carers in addressing the barriers they face when supporting the person living with dementia with limited resources; Understanding, recognising & remembering who unpaid family carers are across the borough; Getting the message of creating a dementia friendly environment in Brent to other agencies and business with other priorities. Being champion for a Dementia Friendly borough with limited capacity & resources.
Improve support to Dementia Carers
We will ensure our Mental Health staff team are trained in Dementia Awareness to improve on the support offered to dementia carers and their dependents in the borough. We will also contribute to the delivery of relevant training to dementia carers.
Working towards creating a Dementia Friendly Borough
Brent Carers Centre will work collaboratively across the borough with our voluntary sector partners, statutory providers, local communities, carers and people living with dementia; to raise awareness on dementia friendly considerations to create an environment where the local people and carers are aware of and understand dementia, and people with dementia will feel included and involved, respected and supported, and have choice and control over their own lives.
Keeping abreast of arising issues and gaps in provision
Brent Carers Centre will ensure we create opportunities to consult with, listen to, capture feedback, report and advocate on arising needs and gaps, as well as successes in supporting dementia carers and people living with dementia to key stakeholders in the borough with the view of influencing service developments in the borough, the creation of a dementia friendly borough of Brent and our own work priorities.
