Felixstowe Dementia Action Alliance

1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

We are keen to ensure our branch is accessible to everyone including those with dementia.  We provide a tailored service to our customers to ensure that their individual needs are supported.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

We need to ensure that all our staff understand how dementia affects people in their daily lives and therefore supporting our customers by understanding how to recognise and accommodate those that have specific needs to do their banking like everyone else.

2. Actions

  • Dementia Friends Awareness

We will ensure that all our staff at the Felixstowe branch have attended a Dementia Friendly talk.  We will also organise that all new starters to our business also attend a talk.  These talks will either be face to face or on-line. This will help increase the awareness and understanding for our staff about the effects of Dementia and how we can tailor our service to help

  • Create an enviroment where customer with Dementia feel comfortable discussing their needs

Staff will wear Dementia Friendly badges to show they understand.  We will display the 'Working Towards becoming Dementia Friendly' sign.  A quite space/room is avaliable for when customers need time out or a quieter, calmer atmosphere to discuss thier banking needs.

    Being implemented
  • Support Felixstowe in working towards achieving 'Dementia Friendly Community' status

We will be joining the Felixstowe Dementia Action Alliance and displaying the sign in branch.  We will also be looking to gain support from other TSB branches in the area to join in at thier local DDA.
