The Eden Centre / Foundation

The Eden Foundation is a Huddersfield-based organisation working at grass-roots levels to help promote Islamic values of peace, unity, and respect. We believe this can be successfully achieved through delivering projects focused on Education and Engagement. Eden Health is our newest initiative. We aim to provide vital services which promote people to lead healthy lifestyles. In conjunction with this, through collaborating with healthcare professionals & organisations we aim to deliver essential community services.

1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

We are a organisation set up by the community for the community. We aim to bring Dementia awareness sessions within community settings.
We hope to provide literature addressing some of the concerns experienced by dementia patients and their carers in particular reference to spiritual crisis and Spiritual care. We hope to act as a focal point of contact in partnership with KDAA to help our communities access dementia awareness and relevant support. We will register to become Dementia Friendly.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Culture and absence of understanding dementia presents difficulties in getting dementia awareness across. Sometimes communities see barriers to services and accessing help. Being a voluntary organisation means we rely alot on manpower and financial support from the community in order to help deliver our objectives.
Expert knowledge of faith/Cultural practices along with good spiritual care and Jurisprudence is needed to ensure religious/spiritual issues relating to Dementia can be addressed to the satisfaction of the service users.
