Ilkley Literature Festival

Ilkley Literature Festival is the North’s largest and most exciting literature festival, welcoming the biggest names in literature, poetry, politics, history, science and culture over 17 days every autumn. Alongside the main Festival, we also run the Words in the City spoken word festival and a programme of education and outreach work with schools and communities in West Yorkshire.

1. Action Plan

Our core team have already taken part in DF awareness sessions. Our Manager and Volunteer Coordinator will arrange for dementia awareness to be built into the event staff and volunteer training.

2. Actions

  • Improve our understanding of dementia

    Our core team have already taken part in DF awareness sessions. Our Manager and Volunteer Coordinator will arrange for dementia awareness to be built into the event staff and volunteer training.

  • Make our audiences aware that we are working to be dementia friendly

    Our Volunteer Coordinator will distribute DF flyers and encourage event staff and volunteers to wear DF badges. In Festival marketing materials (the programme and website), we will display the DF logo, state that we welcome people living with dementia at our events and encourage audience members to let us know if they would like any assistance or support when attending an event.

  • Make our events and venues more dementia friendly

    Our Event Managers will work with our venues to take measures, where possible, to make our events more dementia friendly (e.g. signage, layout, seating arrangements)
