1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

At Hartlaw we meet people with dementia as clients - especially for the Private Client department and clients walking into reception.  There may also be cases where the other departments (Business & Property and Family) have clients with Dementia, which is why we’d like to try to get everyone trained as Dementia Friends.  Awareness around Dementia would help us to provide the services tailored to those clients’ needs.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Time is a big challenge, but we are very committed to making this firm a Dementia Friendly environment and will try to ensure this happens as soon as possible.  We are already looking at dates for training the other departments and would like to be involved further with Dementia Café’s etc should this be something that would be made available to us.

2. Actions

  • Dementia Friends Sessions for all staff

We will ensure all our staff across our departments at Hartlaw have awareness of dementia. We will achieve this by holding several dementia friends sessions over a couple of days so all staff can attend one.

    2017 - Fourth Quarter Update

We have held three training sessions to enable all staff members to attend and become a Dementia Friendly solicitors practice in Wetherby.

  • Attending dementia friendly events

We will attend events giving information, about dementia and with potential for us to share our learning too, as and when appropriate.  This will help us link to other organisations in Leeds and keep our learning and knowledge up to date.

  • Share key information and awareness of dementia with clients

We will put out marketing material and information about dementia, both in our building for clients to use, and on our website. We will use stickers and logos from Dementia Friendly as appropriate to show our support.
