1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Action 1 title:

Understanding

What we are going to do:

We have invited every member of staff to attend a Dementia Friends Session and are regularly providing further sessions within the firm, ensuring that our staff are aware and supported in this respect both at work and in their personal lives

Action 2 title:

Welcome

What we are going to do:

We are in the process of ensuring that our reception areas and meeting rooms are all uncluttered and calm environments thereby reducing any distress due to visual or audio stimulation

Action 3 title:

Dementia Champion

What we are going to do:

A member of our Private Client Team is a Dementia Champion thereby enabling us to spread the word within both our firm and the local community, allowing our firm to support her work as a Champion

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

1. Consider why you want to be a DAA member. How will you establish what actions are important locally for people affected by dementia?
We aim to help those living with dementia and their families and carers make their everyday lives easier, be it offering legal advice tailored to their situation, being involved with community projects or promoting awareness by hosting Dementia Friends Information Sessions

2. What difficulties might you face, and how will you overcome them?
The stigma attached to dementia is a real issue and we aim to spread the word that it needn’t be, we already have staff and their families openly talking about dementia and the impact is has on people’s lives, by spreading the word and involving people we can make our local community a more dementia friendly place to live
