The Orwell Hotel

The Orwell Hotel in Felixstowe offers comfortable accommodation, excellent cuisine, fine wine, great service and a friendly atmosphere all provided by our highly trained team. The Orwell is ideally located in the town centre of the Edwardian resort of Felixstowe, with excellent train links into Ipswich and then onto London, as well as for visiting Cambridge and Norwich. The charm and elegant décor of The Orwell Hotel is a welcome retreat for all guests. The Orwell Hotel is a Victorian hotel dating back to 1898, with traditionally decorated and spacious public areas which have a wealth of charm and elegance. There are 60+ bedrooms, which comprises of standard rooms, executive rooms and 7 individually decorated suites. Each room is decorated to a high standard, in keeping with the welcoming and restful ambiance in the hotel.

1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

The Orwell Hotel supports people living with dementia to feel supported in the community.  We ensure that staff are welcoming, helpful and supportive to all visitors which helps people living with dementia to feel safe. 

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Refurbishment of the Hotel and time.

  • Awareness

    Improve our understanding of Dementia by attending Dementia Friends sessions for front facing staff and encouraging staff to access the Dementia Friends video online.

  • Environment

    The Orwell will use the environmental checklist to see if there are any adjustments we could make to our public facilities to ensure they are dementia friendly.

  • Work with the Felixstowe Dementia Alliance

    Work with the Felixstowe Dementia Alliance to promote the Orwell Hotel as dementia friendly and contributing to making Felixstowe a dementia friendly community.
