1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Fenwick works to provide our customers with the highest level of service.  This in turn allows our staff members to get to know our customers on a personal one to one level.  We can then identify any specific needs or requirements from our customers and respond to individual needs.  We hope that people with dementia will be able to shop with ease amongst our departments knowing that if they need help we are there to support them.

Fenwick is committed to spreading awareness of dementia and has already learnt more about dementia so that we can provide an even better service to our community.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Fenwick challenges are to ensure that all staff who are not currently trained, receive support to improve their levels of understanding to better assist customers' needs. 

2. Actions

  • Improve our understanding of Dementia

    Organise regular training sessions for staff to increase the number of 'Dementia Friends' in the Store and therefore improve understanding of Dementia.

  • Raise Awareness of Dementia and Dementia Friendly Communities

    We will take part in activities (i.e. Dementia Awareness Week) and promotional campaigns that support the process of publicising ways in which people can live well with dementia.

  • Work in partnership across Colchester Borough to contribute towards a ‘Dementia Friendly Community’

    We will join up with partners who share our desire to improve understanding and awareness of dementia by taking part in relevant and appropriate meetings, events and training sessions.
