1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

1Life is a forward thinking and management solutions company that engages with people in local communities to enhance the lives through health and well being, physical activity, learning and arts.

Managing over 45 local authority venues nationwide covering leisure centres, swimming pools, golf course, theatres, nature parks and the National Centre for Craft and Design, we service around 12 million customers per year.

Employing over 2000 staff, we inspire and encourage everyone to get the most out of their 1Life.

Our approach is collaborative, thoughtful and focused on creating tailored solutions to help our local authority clients achieve local outcomes and deliver results at a local level.

Whether that's by: Delivering health & well being services- sports outreach services and arts programmes- capital investment- property management- new funding opportunities- or revenue generation.

To achieve the high standards of operational excellence our clients expect, we partner with industry experts to inspire and drive innovation.

We aim to work with partners to provide a Dementia Hub for the town of North Hykeham. We plan to make minor amendments to our leisure facility (One NK) to make it more dementia friendly. we also plan to train staff at the centre as Dementia Friends as well as create a Support & Services Information Point.

Alongside this we would like to host a monthly activity group to help enrich the lives of those living with dementia and their carers

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Although we feel that our aims and targets are highly achievable, perhaps the initial cost of environmental adaptations, other equipment purchases and marketing costs may prevent us from fully achieving our aims and goals in the early stages of the programme.

The ONE NK leisure facilities during term time is shared with North Kesteven School. Use of certain facilities during term time may affect our ability to provide activity.Sound relationships and good communication will be needed to manage the potential issues

  • A budget will be assigned to the initial development and implementation
  • Costing and quotations will be achievable and realistic
  • Good communications and working relations will be maintained

Our Health and Well being Manager will work with the management team and staff at ONE NK to arrange training for all staff at the centre. Training will be made available onsite and tailored to the environment.

Training will also provide further education surrounding dementia and help to ensure a greater understanding of the condition and how we can help

  • Become a Dementia Friendly Site

The ONE NK Centre is a newly refurbished site and is modern, accessible and comfortable. Some minor adjustments to our facility may be needed to improve upon how Dementia Friendly the site is to users.

We will ensure that all signage is adequately displayed. We will purchase detachable curtains for the main activity room (currently has floor to ceiling mirrors) as well as look in to dark flooring areas and replace.

We will create a 'Support & Services Information Point' where anyone can walk in to the centre and find information about dementia and what support and services are available in the area. This information point will be maintained by the Health & Wellbeing Manager. Additional activity equipment will be assessed and purchased if necessary. We will continue to work to ensure our services and environment are dementia friendly
