The Forum Trust
The Forum is a public building - everyone is welcome seven days a week all year round - and the eclectic mix of free exhibitions, events, activities, catering, shopping and learning opportunities makes the Forum many things to many people. The building is run and managed by The Forum Trust, an independent, self-financing charitable organisation which has a wide ranging project purpose, designed to ensure the Forum remains a vibrant and inspiring place and an asset which benefits the whole community.

1. Action Plan
1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?
As a public building in the heart of the city centre, The Forum Trust are committed to making sure that all members of our community are treated with dignity and respect when they visit our facilities.
We will work to ensure that all our front of house and office staff receive dementia awareness training and will encourage our tenants to do the same. We have appointed a Dementia Lead member of the team and will take an active partnership role in the work of the Norwich City Dementia Action Alliance (NCDAA).
The Forum are looking forward to working with NCDAA partners to improve our services and to include Dementia Friendly activities in the events we deliver.
2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?
A challenge for us will be to ensure that staff training meets the needs of our various departments. We will work with our managers and Age UK Norwich training staff to achieve our aims.
To join the Norwich City Dementia Action Alliance
We have completed the National Dementia Declaration action plan.
To establish a ‘Dementia Champion Role’ within the organisation
Cathy Eden, Project Coordinator, has been appointed as The Forum Trust's 'Dementia Champion'. She is the point of contact for groups and organisations who want to work with The Forum on Dementia-related activities.
To train front line staff in Dementia Awareness
Cathy Eden will work with Age UK Norwich to arrange dementia awareness training for all public facing staff. She will also encourage Forum tenants to take up this training.
Support local fundraising and community events for Dementia care
We are providing space free of charge on Dementia Awareness Day (18th May) for a Dementia Friends photo call outside The Forum. In the future we will actively look for other ways in which we can support community events for Dementia care.
