Damibu is a health technology company based in Liverpool and has worked with many NHS organisations (CCGs and hospital trusts). Damibu developed National Museums Liverpool’s My House of Memories App that uses curated museum content in a digital reminiscence activity. In 2017 Damibu began working on a Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) to develop a new techonology solution for people living with dementia.

1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Damibu believe that technology will play an important role in empowering and supporting people living with dementia. Rather than trying to adapt other types of technology, solutions can be found in co-creating new technology with older people and those living with dementia. Our aim is to develop innovative technology tools which are simple and enjoyable to use. Empowering older people and those living with dementia to retain independence and have access to all of the benefits which modern technology has to offer.

Locally, we want to establish user and co-creation groups, to harness the knowledge and feedback from people living with dementia, encouraging a more active role in the development of new technologies.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Damibu are experts with technology, but do not know what it is like to live with dementia.

Our biggest challenge is to ensure that the technology solutions developed are fit for purpose - to develop high quality technological solutions that can support people living with dementia to have more choice, control over their support, access to knowledge or information etc.

A solution is to build relationships with older people and those living with dementia to involve them in the process of designing new health technology solutions.

2. Actions

  • Engage with any DAA group who requires consultation on technology

Damibu are experts in technology. We have experience creating, developing and delivering several successful dementia technology projects.

Damibu will remain open to chat with any local group or organisation looking to create a dementia related technology. If we are unable to help directly, we will try to provide information and advice to help support you.

  • Continue to develop technology solutions that support those living with dementia

Damibu currently has a number of dementia related technology projects and will continue to develop innovative technology solutions to support those who are living with dementia.

  • Collaborate on accessing digital funding opportunities

Damibu have received several sets of funding to develop health technology products in recent years. Our excellent background in delivering health technology projects allows us to access a wealth of digital / creative orientated funding and use that funding to develop health techology solutions which can benefit those living with dementia.

Damibu are available to collaborate in accessing digital funds for health technology projects, any groups or organisations who would like to discuss future opportunities are encouraged to contact us for advice and guidance. In the event we are unable to directly collaborate with the group / organisation we will endeavour to provide help or guidance.

  • Continue to promote the aims of DAA

Damibu believe that through our workwe must continue to change perceptions of dementia to 'see the person and not the condition'.

Damibu will continue to ensure that that through our projects we continue to promote the aims of the Dementia Action Alliance and the 7 'I Statements' of the National Dementia Declaration in all of the work we do.

  • To create new technology for supporting family & friends of those living with dementia

Since 2017 Damibu have been working on a technology platform that we hope will provide a disruptive, innovative tool for local authorities and health organisations to provide better quality, localised, personalised information to the people who support those living with dementia.
