IDGN is a charity which supports independent living in the Ilkley district. We do this by offering practical assistance (ShopAssist, Home & Garden Assist) by befriending (Good Neighbours Befriending) and by providing social activities (Excursions, Over 90s Party). We also deliver Christmas Parcels to elderly isolated people. Our new scheme, Moving On, helps provide people with information to help them get back on their feet after a life changing event.

1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

We can help support people with dementia and their families/carers through the work we do with older people and by encouraging our staff, trustees and volunteers to attend training sessions to increase their understand of dementia. This will also help us raise awareness within our community of the problems associated with dementia and to support carers and families.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Ilkley Good Neighbours is a volunteer led organisation.  Finding time to deliver the outcomes is perhaps our biggest challenge.

2. Actions

  • Raise our awareness of dementia

To organise a Dementia Friends session for staff, volunteers and trustees. To encourage those unable to be there to attend a public session.
