1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Oxley Sports Centre’s Health and Wellbeing Coach will actively attend and research Dementia friendly events and issues. Oxley will also work with and for the local community to develop Dementia friendly activities and events and will work with and be guided by the SDAA to ensure appropriate provision is in place.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

We will work with and ask for feedback from people with Dementia and their carers to ensure that our provision is adequate and appropriate. We will put into action any suggestions that are reasonable in order to ensure the best possible service is provided to people with Dementia and their carers.

2. Actions

  • Become a Dementia friendly business for the residents of Sherborne and the surrounding area

Encourage and arrange for staff to attend a dementia friends session and raise awareness of dementia across all of our departments, community, public buildings and grounds by becoming more knowledgeable about Dementia through the ‘Dementia Friends’ training.

  • Make Oxley Sports Centre and it’s provisions more accessible to people with Dementia and their carers by being able to offer reassurance and understanding and being able to communicate clearly and effectively when conversing with someone with Dementia.

Provide clear signage and directions throughout the centre and for all staff to be prepared to offer support and guidance around the centre and within activities.

  • Promote Dementia Action Alliance and becoming a Dementia friendly community and encourage other businesses to become members of the SDAA

Become an active and committed member of the Sherborne Dementia Action Alliance by promoting Oxley Sport Centre’s membership and arranging Dementia friendly events and projects.
