1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

We would have a national and local role promoting and supporting Dementia Friends, national campaigns, change in policies, events to raise awareness, local support for carers, exercise classes for people with Dementia

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Finding volunteers to work with people with dementia to enable them to swim and use pool changing rooms etc. This is our biggest challenge in leisure and we want to create Dementia Friendly Swimming across ALL our pools.

2. Actions

  • Dementia Friends on all our sites

We aim to have staff who are Dementia Friends at all our sites. We are continuing to run sessions for new staff and offer sessions in the community.

  • Create Dementia Friendly Swimming

Pilot and create a Dementia Friendly Swim session. Learn how this works best then roll out the idea to all pools at PfPL.  We have implemented some sessions across the country working in partnership with Local DAAs and Swim England.
