York CVS

York CVS is a social action organisation. We take steps to make positive change, challenge issues and grow news ideas for the future which strengthen communities. Since 1939, York CVS has supported thousands of local charities, voluntary organisations and social enterprises to focus on what they do best-making a difference. York CVS enables voluntary organisations to do what they do better through advice and training. We also facilitate forums giving local organisations a voice and we speak out on behalf of our members and the voluntary sector.

1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

York CVS exists to ensure that the Voluntary Community and Social Enterprise sector thrives in York and that it speaks out for individuals and communities. We take an active approach to communicating good practice and developing opportunities through out the sector. In this way we promote issues involving dementia to reach all organisations in York, whether public, private or voluntary sector. We also work closely with our colleagues at Healthwatch to maximise their work in tackling issues related to dementia.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

A challenge for York CVS will be finding ways to ensure the dementia friendly message is heard consistently and frequently during time of limited capacity.
