1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Our product enables people living with dementia to live in their own homes for longer and provides peace of mind for those caring for them. The product tracks movement, temperature, light and noise 24 hours a day.  TextCare is a solution to helping people have choice and control over their lives when they may be struggling to communicate what support they need.

In terms of planning care it provides a picture of routines and habits and eliminates any guesswork.  Our product can help influence and support care, keeping it person centered and responsive to people’s needs and can mean tailoring solutions when needs change.

Giving the right level of care at the right time will not only help improve the well-being of the person living with dementia but also the well-being of the person providing the care.

Assistive technology, in particular tracking technology can assist people when they are considering their future planning of care, sometimes known as Advanced Care Planning.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

One of our biggest challenges is getting information about this product and its benefits to the right people; which is anybody who has a responsibility for caring for someone living with dementia. This could be family members, friends, social care and supported/assisted housing.

Sometimes family members do not consider themselves to be carers and TextCare are committed to ensure that they do and are committed to promoting their well-being so that they are better able to care for a person living with dementia

TextCare will network with groups within the public, private and third sector to not only raise awareness but to gain further knowledge about dementia that can help to inform any future developments.

TextCare is currently attending a series of meetings with a nationwide supported housing organisation to consider the benefits of having this product available for the homes that they provide.

  • Helping family members to consider themselves as carers and to get the much needed help and support they deserve.

TextCare are in the process of producing posters that are aimed at family members. Our plan is to display these posters in post offices, libraries, café’s etc. I have personal experience of caring for a loved one who has dementia and I was not aware that assistive technology was available. It is important to me and the company to ensure that they can have peace of mind about their loved ones when they are not able to be with them and they can play an active role when planning care for them .
