As one of the smaller Building Societies offering mortgages, savings and investments we are passionate about giving our Members and Customers something special, something they find difficult to get elsewhere. Because of our size, we don’t do things like the larger financial institutions: •We don’t have call centres •You have access to the decision makers •We can offer much more flexibility to ensure we can meet individual customers' needs •We still offer personal service in a world that is becoming more impersonal. Although we operate throughout Britain, we enjoy great support from the City of Bath and its surrounding areas. Indeed, the Society can trace its origins back to 1904, when it was set-up originally as a Friendly Society. It used Members’ investments to buy property to rent, becoming a Building Society in the 1950s, lending money for people in the City to buy their own homes.

1. Action Plan
1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?
Bath Building Society has a Head Office plus two Branches in Bath. Our aim is to provide our Members and Customers with a great service, product range and friendly staff. The Society can trace its origins back to 1904, when it was set-up originally as a Friendly Society. It used Members’ investments to buy property to rent, becoming a Building Society in the 1950s, lending money for people in the City to buy their own homes.
At our Head Office we are keen to work with Dementia Action Alliance (DAA) to make our Head Office Reception more dementia friendly through staff sessions and a review of our Reception environment.
2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?
We only have one member of staff that has had any dementia training so we are keen to work with DAA to get all front line staff more dementia friendly as soon as possible.
To raise awareness of dementia amonst our staff
We will provide all of our Staff with dementia friends sessions ensuring that they are able to help Members and Customers who they come into contact with through the Branch or on the phone. All new members of staff will be given the training as and when they join the Society.
Support the Banes DAA
We are going to support our local DAA to help make BaNES a dementia friendly place.
We are going to conduct a review of our premises and consider what can be done to make the Building Society more accessible for people living with dementia.
