1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Awaaz FM is a community radio station and we actively encourage community members to join or participate in programs. Members of the station have personal influence over decisions that may be taken regarding thier personal well-being as they are encouraged to take part in decision making processes. We actively try to design our service around the needs of each individual volunteer and provide a supportive environment where people feel valued and understood. Each volunteer has the sense of belonging and of being a valued part of the Awaaz community.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

The biggest challenge is understanding the different forms of dementia and how the individual would like to be treated. Often the way the individual is treated is not always the best way forward until they are involved in the process.
