1. Action Plan
1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?
In March 2015 Lewes Town Council voted to become a dementia friendly town. In April the Mayor of Lewes held a Mayor’s Reception for 'Dementia Friendly Lewes' inviting interested parties from all walks of life in the town.
The interest generated has resulted in the formation of Lewes and District Dementia Action Alliance which is to be formally launched in March 2017.
The Town Hall hosts a public Dementia Friends information session every other month.
2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?
Lewes Town Council is constrained like any other organisation with time and funding for projects. However, the Town council own excellent venues, for example the Town Hall and the All Saints Centre, which it can provide to the DAA free of charge.
