1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Dementia awareness training is part of induction for new staff. There is also a programme of general customer care training. Staff try to tailor attitudes, verbal communication and services we provide in public facing roles to take account of difficulties experienced by people with dementia. We try to provide a physical environment that is welcoming and easily navigated

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Visits by other library users and services and events provided for them eg children, teenagers, adults with learning difficulties may not always be compatible with environment best suited to people with dementia and we have to juggle these priorities.

Some library admin and services are varied and sometimes difficult to explain simply.

New staff may not be aware of individual needs of regular customers.

We may not be able to change the décor or layout of the library.
