1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Huntingdonshire District Council has many visions for its 173,600 residents and 7,500 businesses located within the district. Our main strategic priorities for 2015/2016 are as follows:

A strong local economy

Enabling sustainable growth

Working with our communities

Ensuring we are a customer focused and service led council

In delivering these strategic priorities to our residents, we directly come into contact with a majority of our residents and are committed to dealing with these residents clearly and with the highest of dignity.

We recognise that many of our residents are affected by Dementia, whether directly or by caring or working with those who have the disease. We are looking to continually support our residents as much as we can and feel that by working with the DAA we will be able to achieve a solid support system for our residents, employers and businesses across the council.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

We have multiple sites throughout our organisation and reaching all these within a short time period will be difficult. We aim to reach all of these sites in a short period of time and take steps towards delivering the best possible service to our customers and employees.

Understanding of dementia among our workforce and limited time/capacity for training. Implementing systems to support dementia across our several sites including our offices, call centres,  and on-street staff.
