Dementia Friendly East Riding (DFER)
Dementia Friendly East Riding (DFER) is a local dementia charity with the aim of raising dementia awareness throughout the East Riding of Yorkshire. By bringing individuals and organisations together to raise understanding of dementia, we will enable people affected by dementia to live positively as they can within our East Riding community.

1. Action Plan
1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?
We are already carrying out projects that align with the LDAA ethos and making a difference to people living with dementia and their supporters, therefore it makes sense to us to join the DAA network to enable us to share our work, learn from others, and collaborate with like-minded organisations and groups.
2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?
We are a completely volunteer led organisation and therefore our biggest challenge is our very limited resources to achieve our big ambitions.

Dementia Friends Information Sessions
We will raise awareness of dementia in the East Riding area by providing Dementia Friends sessions. A number of our trustees are already Dementia Friends Champions. We will encourage local organisations and individuals to become a Dementia Friend, either through the sessions that we run, or through sessions provided by the Alzheimer’s Society staff and volunteers.

Cinema screenings with dementia friendly features
We are working with a local family run cinema (Beverley Parkway Cinema) to host bi-monthly ‘Open to All’ film screenings with dementia friendly features. We may, in the future, be able to expand this to other venues such as arts centres and theatres within our region. We have been running this project since May 2016 on an ongoing basis.

‘Reminisce’ Garden Project
Following the success of our award winning ‘Reminisce’ garden at the Yorkshire Garden Festival held in Melton during the spring / summer of 2016, we would like to replicate our garden at another venue or venues in our region for 2017.
