Worthing Dementia Action Alliance

1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

I am a dementia champion and have supported Worthing Dementia Action Alliance as one of the steering group.  Organising and taking minutes at meetings, writing copy and promoting the Alliance through social and traditional media channels.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Our challenge is not within the organisation itself but to extend the word across West & East Sussex.

2. Actions

  • Publish a newsletter on the West Sussex Alliances

I have wrote and published a newsletter on the Dementia Friendly Communities of West Sussex - Crawley, Worthing, Chichester & Bognor, Haywards Heath, Horsham, Adur, East Grinstead, Midhurst and Burgess Hill.

  • Dementia Friends Intiatives

To work as part of the Worthing Dementia Action Alliance to encourage local businesses to become dementia friendly and offer dementia friends sessions to other businesses in Sussex as the county increases its awareness of dementia.

    Being implemented

    2017 - First Quarter Update

In the first quarter of this year we have launched an even to raise Dementia Friendly Communities with local businesses.

The launch was very successful in raising awareness with the local businesses. Some of the businesses needed to be approached personally and finding the time is very difficult but working with another member of the steering group we have seen success with our local council, chamber of commerce and bus company as well as smaller local businesses.

  • Design and develop a dementia friendly website for Worthing

This will be a comprehensive resource of information, advice and signposting for people with dementia, their carers and families, local providers, health professionals, businesses, dementia friends and the community.  Launch date 1st December 2016.

The website www.dementiafriendlyworthing.org has been very successful and welcomed in West Sussex. Facebook and Twitter accounts have also been launched with currently (Apr 2017) 250 followers on twitter and lots of follows and likes on Facebook.

    2017 - First Quarter Update

The website has been a tremendous benefit to people in Worthing and Adur, in fact, we have had comments from people across the country who have been trying to access the kind of information which is available on the site. This includes:
