1. Action Plan
1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?
Our experience in providing social care transport for Bradford Council is second to none and includes providing daily transport for people with dementia and other special needs. Our services are paramount helping and supporting local people affected by dementia by having access to transport all the time. All Metro drivers are DBS Safe and adequately trained every 3 years in how to transport passengers with a wide range of special needs. As a service provider we will aim to deliver outcomes for people with dementia and their carers by: Providing dementia awareness training for our staff Working with local dementia alliances to ensure that we are aware of issues of concern to people with dementia and carers around public transport, and ensuring that these are taken into account in the planning and provision of services Sharing knowledge gained from working with local dementia action alliances with taxi operators and encourage links between taxi operators and local dementia action alliances
2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?
Although Metro Taxis have many years of experience in customer care, we have seen many changes and developments in raising awareness for people with dementia and other special needs, hence, it is important that we continue to ensure that our staff are fully trained and that we have adequate processes within our organisation to carry this training out on a regular basis
