OPEN Youth Trust
The OPEN Youth Trust (OPEN) is a charity which relies on grant funding and donations from trusts, companies and individuals to raise the funds needed to support our work with young people. OPEN was established in 2005 to provide opportunities for young people in Norfolk, including those who are most disadvantaged, with the longer term aim of making a positive difference to their lives. The charity, based in the heart of Norwich, is also home to a multi-purpose venue which provides live music and venue hire for conferences, meetings and events as well as secure storage through CLOSED. The profit from these commercial activities enables the charity to offer a diverse range of different activities, most of which are free to attend, for young people aged 7 – 25.

1. Action Plan
1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?
OPEN has committed to providing their staff with accessible information and appropriate training. We will have a named Dementia Lead and Dementia Links within our organisation. We will also have policies that support our staff who either have dementia themselves, or are carers of a person with dementia. This turn will develop an organisational and service culture which is supportive of people with dementia and their carers. We will commit to adapt our physical environments to better meet the needs of people with dementia. We are proud to communicate our commitment to become a dementia friendly employer, both internally and externally, including raising the awareness of the Norwich City Dementia Action Alliance.
2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?
These may include:
A lack of knowledge about dementia among our staff, who primarily focus on delivering services for children and young people; Limited financial resources, due to funding.
