1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

1. We would like to encourage people living with dementia to enjoy performances in a relaxed atmosphere. We wish to develop a number of dementia friendly performances over the next 2 years

 2. We will endeavour to encourage all our staff to become Dementia Friends

3. We will produce a potential new play on dementia

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

As a charity with little funding we are limited to making small changes over a period of time. All our Front of House team are volunteers from a range of different backgrounds and it may take time for them all to become a dementia friend.

The majority of our shows are on tour and we are unable to add extra dementia friendly performances. We can however add these performances to our own productions which will increase over the next 2 years

2. Actions

  • To present Dementia Friendly Performances

We have added 2 relaxed performances for our Christmas pantomime with will also be dementia friendly. We will do this by lowering sound and effect levels, keeping the house lights up and having staff on duty who are dementia friends.

    2016 - Fourth Quarter Update

Our Christmas production of Peter Pan had 2 relaxed performances, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

  • Produce a potential new play on Dementia

We are working in partnership with the University of Exeter in developing a potential new commission on dementia by using first hand accounts from individuals with dementia and their carers.

  • Endeavour to encourage all staff to become Dementia Friends

18 members of staff are already dementia friends and we will endeavour for the remaining staff to view the Dementia Friends video online

    2016 - Fourth Quarter Update

We plan to hold a Dementia Friends session for our team of FOH volunteers in the autumn of 2017. Our volunteers are in the front line in dealing with our audiences and will benefit from this programme
