Pelham Nursing Home

Pelham House Care Home is based in Folkestone, Kent and was established in 1978 as a 10 bed care home for the elderly. By 1997 Pelham House had established an excellent reputation for providing high quality care and expanded to a spacious 22 bed residential care home.

1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Pelham House Care Home will focus on the following outcome for those residents living with dementia:

It will focus on ensuring a supportive environment where peopleI feel valued and understood.  Our residents will be able to make  a contribution which makes them feel valued and valuable. They will be listened to and have their views considered.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

The challenge to delivering this outcome is ensuring that the staff at Pelham House are supported, trained and focused on ensuring residents with dementia gain the above level of service 24/7.  

2. Actions

  • Ensure all staff are trained in dementia awareness

    As part of the organisations mandatory training, all staff will be directed to complete dementia awareness

  • Ensure the Home's design takes account of people with dementia

    Review the signage in the Home and consider options to improve the way it is navigated by people with dementia
