1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

We are a national energy company with a strong local focus. We are determined to become a dementia friendly business and employer. Through this associated increased awareness we will encourage our staff and commercial partners to become Dementia Friends. This understanding can then be turned into action to benefit people living with dementia.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Lack of knowledge amongst staff and community.

Limited time and resources.

This is not the primary purpose of our business.

2. Actions

  • Raising Awareness of Dementia

We will arrange for all staff members to become Dementia Friends. We will also encourage at least one member of staff to become a Dementia Friends Champion and so ensure new personnel will become Dementia Friends as part of their induction programme.

  • Dementia Friendly Community

We will encourage and support our staff to take part in fundraising events and volunteering activities for dementia and dementia related organisations and charities.

  • Dementia Friendly Employer

We will work towards adopting the advice outlined in the Alzheimer’s Society’s “Creating a dementia-friendly Workplace” document into our HR policies.
